ADVANTAGES OF THE CONSOLID SYSTEM >

According to our research and independent laboratory test results, most soils can be treated to improve its properties. The following are exceptions: non-cohesive soils, heavy clays and soils with less than about 10% of particles smaller than 0,06 mm.

Non-cohesive soils can be mixed with clay and silt and successfully treated, while heavy clay can be mixed with sand or gravel to improve workability.

Historically, the most water sensitive soils, sandy and clayey silts have shown the greatest improvements with treatment.

Higher resistance of the top layer with coarse fractions of the soil in a diameter of 1/3 of the layer thickness is a general rule and recommended.

The advantages reported in the literature have been verified to a larger extent by the users of the Consolid products. The advantages result from the effects of the treatments discussed in the previous chapter. The amount of increase or reduction of the measurements depends on the soil properties and application rates as discussed in the next chapter.

The use of Consolid 444 alone is recommended only under special conditions.

The CONSOLID System® is a high-tech soil stabilization and soil waterproofing that is different from the traditional methods as it makes soil compaction totally irreversible.

1) The CONSOLID System   allows the improvement of the bearing capacity of any type of cohesive or lightly cohesive soil from 3 to 5 times, with over 50% of the cases with much more than five times.

The required bearing capacity can be obtained with 75% up to 100% of the in-situ available soil and you save on the collection and transportation to controlled dumps and on the borrowed materials. Savings are very important.

2) The improvement of properties as well as the soil bearing values are permanent and an upgrading can be observed in a short time with the effects of traffic.

The increasing firmness and stability of the treated soil will bring about longer durability and thus bigger savings due to less maintenance.

Environment

The Swiss federal office assessed the environmental compatibility of the Consolid system in July 1987.
Verified using the eluat test, no substances washed out. Many other countries have proven the environmental benefits of consolid system.

E,G,S one of the consolid installers, were presented with the green apple award in the house of commons presented by the health secretary Patricia Hewitt.
One of the top winners at the 2005 awards, collecting the runner up award, in Building and construction category.

Frost Resistance

According to the present knowledge and the research of the University of Karlsruhe (1996),

Dresden (1997), and other universities, we presume that the effect of the CONSOLID SYSTEM and the frost resistance is granted for long terms.

Through the heavily reduced water content of treated soil, the water causes no threat to frost heave. In this range, the CONSOLID SYSTEM is on a similar level as concrete. The thermal conductivity of the embankment treated with the CONSOLID SYSTEM is much lower and therefore the time to freeze the subgrade too.
